You did it, America! You made History! And in a good way!
We went over to the Shoes’ last night for a little viewing party with Miz Shoes, the RLA, Star, the Surrogate Daughter #3 (hers, not mine), Yogi and BooBoo (don’t ask – they chose their own names). We ate. We drank. We agonized over just WTF was taking Indiana so long. The first great cheer occurred when Ohio went BLUE. I was so proud!
We had our first inkling how Florida would go when one of the talking heads on MSNBC noted that our beloved (Republican) governor, Charlie Crist, had to return to Tallahassee on some “urgent legal matter” and left McSame’s “victory” party. Heh heh heh. When both my birth state and my home state turned BLUE on the map, my heart swelled with pride.
Senator Obama’s speech was inspirational and motivating, tempered by realism. I was moved practically to tears. Once again, I was watching a pivotal moment in history. And a movement away from the politics of fear to the politics of ethics and HOPE.
May I have another glass of Kool Aid, please?
Miz Shoes says
PRACTICALLY to tears? Oh, you lying, lying woman. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, unless you count the dog JoJo of Very Little Brain, and even she was thumping her tail. I have a headache this morning that I suppose is a hangover, but I don’t care. Isn’t this the most beautiful morning you’ve ever seen?

Okay, fine. I lied. It is indeed a Beautiful morning! My heart is full of anticipation! To live in these times – it’s just framing amazing…
RJ Flamingo says
That should have said “freaking”. Damn this spell checker!

My celebration (if you can call it that) was quiet, reflective and peaceful… but no less heartfelt. My home state (NC) is probably still gray or yellow or whatever color the particular map in question uses to denote “too close to call”, but the “unofficial” returns gave the nod to Obama by just under 20,000 votes. I’m happy that he’s apparently carried the state, not so happy that it was that close. Had this been a narrowly decided contest, NC could have been the new FL.But I’m energized to see that the “silent majority” has finally found its voice. Voter turnout here was close to 70% and in some counties reached almost 80%. It topped 60% in 96 out of 100 counties and only one county reported less than half. It’s a new day in America, and for that matter in the world. And if you want a peace globe, just stop by and let me know. I’m available for such things for those who need/want a custom job. And if not for this BlogBlast, then for the next one in June. The movement isn’t stopping, it’s growing every time. But really, you can make it as simple as you like. Lots of people don’t do any more than put a name on the generic one. Even Mimi, the woman who started BlogBlast, doesn’t have any more on hers that that.Anyway globe or no globe, I wanted to wish you and yours “Dona Nobis Pacem” on this day.
