I know, I’m late.
Dona Nobis Pacem – Latin for “Give Us Peace” – is a phrase out of the Roman Catholic mass. It is also today’s theme for thousands around the world who are taking part in the Peace Blogblast.
Turning a phrase from my youth, Peace is good for children and other living things. Peace should be the core of any solution to the crises we are going through right now, and could head off some new ones.
Think about it: If we ended the war in Iraq – aside from the irreplaceable lives saved and being completely pragmatic, we could save billions of dollars that could be used to help repair the global financial crisis. Ending the war and at least attempting diplomacy in our disputes with others would repair most of our international relationships, perhaps ushering in a new era of worldwide cooperation. That could lead to increased efforts to resolve global energy and environmental issues.
Substitute the word “cooperation” for the word “Peace”, and suddenly Peace isn’t merely a wide-eyed goal – Peace is a solution. So, even though I haven’t downloaded and customized a Peace Globe, today I join my blog’s voice with others’ in demanding from our leaders – both old and new –
Dona Nobis Pacem!
