The PhotoHunt theme this week is “Veterans/Military”
This is kind of embarrassing for me. Anyone who knows us, knows that my husband is a military history buff, and that somewhere in this house are his collection of military medals and even his great-uncle Frank’s diary from when he was first stationed on a U.S. Navy ship in World War II. Somewhere. But, of course, things get shifted, moved, then moved again, and before you know it, all you can say is that you know they’re here. Somewhere.
So the best I can come up with at the moment are rockets. Rockets from the early days of the U.S. space program. All of the early astronauts – and most of the present-day ones – are U.S. Air Force officers, for the very reason that the space program was considered a military program. You should, of course, feel free to click on the images for a better look. They’re pretty cool, actually.
Hopefully, by Wednesday, which is Veterans’ Day here in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in other countries, I will be able to locate some of these items and write a proper post. But in the meantime, I offer these as a humble tribute to our men and women in the Armed Forces, and say to them: Thank you for your service!
I agree with you, military are best chosen to fly on the rockets.
I know what you mean about things getting mislaid. The Redstone reocket saw agreat service on the Mercury missions. Have a great weekend
I would love to have a glimpse of that diary!!!One of MY favorite Veterans is on my post this week. Come see him if you have some time.Click HereOoorah!
We have a hard time finding things in this house too! We love the rockets!!! Of course, living on the Space Coast makes us even bigger rocket fans!!Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
Great shots for the theme!Check out my husband's 20 years in the navy. Have a great weekend!
Sure hope you can find your MIA items. It would be great to see them. Rockets are always cool! :)My military is in honor of those who died at Fort Hood and 911
Its good to look back of what our heroes have done to defend and liberate us.Take a look at my HERO
Great shots! My entry is a bit unusual.
Wouldn't you just know it. When you really want something, it's burred in all the other must-haves. I think rockets are a great solution.
'Thank you' is never enough! Check out my tribute… you will remember!
Great post, RJ, and so nice to have one that honors the military for something other than their war service. I'd almost forgotten that the early space pioneers were all Air Force. I posted today too. http://healingmagichands.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/photohunt-veterans/
