Carlin, that is. Okay so I’m a little late to the party – and I can’t think for a minute that he wouldn’t want a party – but I was stranded on the FL West Coast without a decent internet connection, remember? I’m sure it’s been done to the nth power, but here is my favorite Carlin comment on society – every bit as relevant now as it was when he first performed this routine, what? 20 years ago? 25? More?
You know how you know you’re getting old? When it’s your favorite celebrities dying off (of natural causes – not getting high and crashing into a bus full of Brazilian tourists gawking at the Homes Of The Stars – it’s not the same) one by one.
There will never be another like George Carlin. I’m still waiting for the next great critical comedic voice. It sure as shit ain’t gonna be Mike Myers or Adam Sandler. Do we really need more stupid toilet jokes? sex gags? dwarf-tossing? Where’s the sharp wit? the social commentary? the call to reform?
Who will wake up this generation?
