And now, for something completely different…
So I’m wandering around the blogosphere, catching up on my reading, so to speak, and I stopped by Canarygirl’s blog. If you haven’t already discovered her (and why haven’t you? the link’s been over there on my blogroll since the beginning of time!), Nikki writes one of my favorite recipe blogs, and even if I don’t make a particular recipe, I’m always inspired.
And if you’ve been following along here over the last few weeks, you know that I’ve not really been quite myself. Okay, fine. I’ve been myself. Just cranky. Really, really cranky. Well, where else would you expect me to blow off steam?
What does one have to do with the other? I discovered that, several weeks ago, Nikki made Salisbury Steak. I know! TV dinners, cafeterias, diner food. Comfort food. Totally. In her comments, I said that I was going to call MJ and have him take some ground beef out of the freezer immediately. She may not have believed me, but I did.
I had everything on hand except the Kitchen Bouquet stuff. So I used some beef bouillon instead. And I did thicken the gravy. And oven-roasted mixed fingerling potatoes (little olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, 375°, 25-30 minutes) instead of mash. Here’s Nikki’s.

I made this last night for the RLA, with the roasted fingerlings and all. He was in heaven, and I have to admit, that was some tasty stuff. And I don’t even like Salisbury Steak. Too close to mini-meatloafs.
