The PhotoHunt theme this week is “Twisted”

Lazy slug that I am, these last couple of weeks, I’m combining my PhotoHunt post with my (belated) Nature Notes post – again!

These are the “twisted” roots of one of my orchid plants:

The vanda orchids at the other end. Don’t they look like little lion faces? If you squint? Okay, ignore that one of them has an ant up its nose.

I feel like I’ve come full circle. These orchids are the ones I began Flamingo Fotos with, a year ago.

Intensely violet and white dendrobium

These are blooming about a month late, but bigger and better than ever. I don’t know why. The drought followed by the seemingly never-ending rain? Orchid afficionados are frequently horrified by my orchid “culture” of benign neglect, and between blooming times, I’ll admit that sometimes the foliage looks a little ratty. But they bloom – oh, baby! – do they bloom.

Announcing: Flamingo Fotos!

This morning I posted a new blog called Flamingo Fotos. It is purely a vanity project – someplace for me to post some favorite photos I’ve taken that really don’t justify a spot here. It’s going to pretty much be the flora and fauna around my house and neighborhood, both now and some previous stuff (if I haven’t re-sized them out of existence!).

It is very much a work-in-progress. I haven’t added any links (except to here, of course), or any of the other bells and whistles. But you can leave comments if the spirit moves you.

This morning, I posted some snaps of several of the vandaceous orchids that are blooming right now. Let me know what you think!
